Latest Project UK Round Up

It’s been a really busy time for everyone at Abacus. Here we take a quick look back at some of the key projects our team has been involved with so far this year.….

Clippers Quay

In February the Clippers Quay development reached another milestone with Section 4 out of 6 reaching Practical Completion. With only two final blocks comprising 208 apartments left to complete, over 400 apartments have been successfully handed over to the end-user Grainger.   When complete, Clippers Quay will feature 614 one, two, and three-bedroom rental apartments spread across three individually designed and themed buildings, each with their own distinct look and feel, and more than 7,000 sq ft of amenity space for exclusive use by residents.

The final two Blocks are due for completion in April 2019, several weeks in advance of the contract completion date.

Friars Road, Coventry

In Coventry the concrete frame of the Friars Road student scheme was finished and the project team is now looking forward to celebrating the long-awaited topping out ceremony which is due to take place at the end of April.  At this point the project will be 95% complete on elevations, 60% of rooms locked down, all services live and the client snag well under way.

New Bailey Car Park, Salford

At the end of 2018 NCP and The English Cities Fund announced the completion of the Stanley Street multi-storey car park at the fund’s New Bailey development in Salford. The English Cities Fund is a joint venture between Muse Developments, Legal and General and Homes England. The car park will bring 633 new spaces to the development and will be NCP’s third new build multi-storey car park in the area. Built by Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure, the chosen contractor for this phase of the New Bailey development, the car park was completed two weeks ahead of schedule.

The car park uses energy efficient LED lighting and is fitted with six electric vehicle charging points, along with 20 wide bays to make sure it meets the diverse needs of customers. The new site also offers the latest customer-focused payments facilities, including Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), so those who sign up can make automated payments when they park – removing the need for them to visit kiosks or payment machines.

Vita, Birmingham

Morgan Sindall and the project team celebrated the topping out of Select Property Group’s first Vita Student residential scheme in the Midlands with an event attended by representatives from the project and client team.  Located on the site of the former BBC Pebble Mill studios, on Pershore Road, the development comprises 357 high-specification, self-contained studios. Construction work is on course to be completed in time for the start of the academic year in 2019.

Hollis Croft, Sheffield

And In Sheffield we also celebrated the topping out of the Steel City student accommodation scheme, a 350 unit development across a cluster of sites at Hollis Croft. The scheme, adjacent to the University of Sheffield’s Engineering Faculty, is a development from Future Generation, part of the Southern Grove group – a Soho-based real estate developer led by Sheffield-born Chairman Andrew George Southern.  It is due to be completed in time for the start of the 2019/2020 academic year, features modern, high quality accommodation (townhouses, apartments and studios) and networking facilities, including a roof top Sky Lounge.
